COMPETITION could not have |been closer at Sunday’s Harry Spence Fun Bowls Day, held at the Noble Park Bowls Club.
The Noble Park RSL bowling squad was the overall winner by a point, scoring 153 to Noble Park’s 152 to secure the trophy for the year.
The Harry Spence Day is held annually as a fun day of competition between the Noble Park RSL and Noble Park Bowls Club to honour the memory of Harry Spence, who died in 1992.
Spence was a former manager and life member of the Noble Park RSL, a well-respected trainer for the Noble Park Football Club and a popular member of the Noble Park Bowls Club.
The year after Spence died his wife Joan and family donated several of his bowls to be mounted on a large trophy, to be awarded to the winners of the Harry Spence Bowls Day each year.
The individual team winners on the day were Michael Hopkins, Ray Martin and Graeme Arms.
Round two of Royal Victorian Bowls |Association competition was in full swing |on Saturday and light rain did not dampen the competitiveness of players.
Noble Park’s Division Four, Section Six clash against Narre Warren went down to |the wire with just one shot separating the teams.
