Dandenong MP John Pandazopoulos flanked by Dandenong Ward councillor Jim Memeti and Lyndale Ward councillor Sue Walton with local sporting club representatives.WOMEN’S change rooms, a lawn bowls study and access for disabled at a local cricket club are all promised under a $286,000 State Government grant financed by gambling taxes.
The Sport and Recreation Victoria 2006-07 community facility funding program will provide $146,000 to the Hemmings Park Youth Precinct project, $50,000 to George Andrews Reserve for women’s changerooms, and another $50,000 to upgrade facilities at Parkfield Reserve.
It will also provide $15,000 for a city-wide lawn bowls study, and $25,000 to install a batting cage with lighting and other baseball facilities at Booth Reserve.
Dandenong MP John Pandazopoulos announced the grants and said it would help boost sports participation in Greater Dandenong.
“Local sport and recreation facilities are a focal point for building active, more connected communities and the Bracks Government is providing the backing to help them grow even stronger,” he said. The funding program is supported by the Community Support Fund, established from gaming machine revenue.
Mr Pandazopoulos said 85 per cent of the Government’s gambling taxes was pumped into the fund, amounting to $4.5 billion in the past five years. The Community Support Fund can be allocated to health and community related projects.
