A WORKPLACE relations lawyer is the new president of the Rotary Club of Dandenong.
Peter Davidson, 62, will take the reins from Margaret Cleary with a clear focus on tackling mental health and working with young people.
Mr Davidson is a lawyer who used to practise in Dandenong and is now based in Glen Iris.
He has been with the Dandenong Rotary branch for three years and will serve 12 months as president.
Mr Davidson said among his goals were to start a local mental health forum to raise awareness of mental illness.
“We will have relevant health professionals attending,” he said.
He said the branch would also conduct mock employment interviews with students from Cleeland Secondary College.
“It helps the kids get ideas of what needs to be done when they eventually apply for employment,” Mr Davidson said.
Mr Davidson said under his leadership the Dandenong branch would continue supporting the Cancer Council’s Relay for Life fundraiser after collecting $5500 for the event this year.
