Dandenong businessman Douglas Maxwell has been listed on the Honour Roll of the Victorian Manufacturing Hall of Fame.
Mr Maxwell, who is managing director of the Steele and Lincoln Foundry, was honoured at the gala dinner at the Crown Paladium this month.
Mr Maxwell has been an outstanding business advocate for the south eastern region of Melbourne, in particular the Greater Dandenong area, for well over 30 years.
He is a past president of the South East Melbourne Manufacturers’ Alliance (SEMMA).
Mr Maxwell, who began his career as a fitter and turner in 1956, has also been honoured by the Australian Foundry Industry, and has been involved with the Greater Dandenong Chamber of Commerce Premier Regional Business Awards as a panel judge.
He was also on the steering committee for the Victorian Government’s M:Tech manufacturing awareness campaign in 2001.
But at heart, Mr Maxwell is modest about his achievements, and when he spoke to Star seemed more keen to talk about his passion – industry in Greater Dandenong.
“Dandenong never ceases to amaze me,” he said.
“It will continue to grow because it has got excellent infrastructure facilities.
“Dandenong has very progressive and forward-thinking people.”
Mr Maxwell said he had to step down from SEMMA presidency due to health problems, but had still remained a part of the Chamber of Commerce and SEMMA through the Premier Regional Business Awards, in which he toured some of the finest facilities in Dandenong’s industrial region to judge the winners of those awards with panel colleagues.
