YOUNG people across Greater Dandenong are preparing to rock the city’s newest youth venue as the hunt for the most coveted local band kicks off.
The new youth music venue, The Castle, formerly known as the Armytage Hall, has been refurbished and transformed into a modern youth arts and music hub to replace the Muso Network’s tiny The Venue facility.
The $1.2 million venue will hold 300 people, contains a spacious main hall and has a canteen with open deck.
To help kick-off The Castle’s newfound life, the Muso Network is urging young people to head along to the first round of heats for its ninth annual Battle of the Bands on 15 July.
The Battle of the Bands is no token competition, with serious prizes up for grabs such as the free recording of an album, singing lessons, the opportunity to play before talent scouts from Mushroom Records and a headline spot for next year’s statewide final.
The State Government’s FreeZA program is supporting the program.
FreeZA events worker Vanessa Osbourne said this year’s competition was likely to be one of the largest yet, with more than 25 bands signed up.
Tickets start from $10 and are available through the Drum Theatre on 9771 6628.
