A DANDENONG business is turning metal manufacturing into artwork.
Locker Group is entering its second year in the Greater Dandenong community and its 50th year in Australia.
The manufacturer specialises in wire mesh, perforated metal plates, and expanded metal, and is creating visually appealing sheet metal.
Headlining its list of metalwork techniques is what the company calls Pic-Perf, a technique that has both an artistic and practical benefit.
Locker Group can create patterns or images on metal sheets using a perforation technique, and the company says it can create Pic-Perf images as small as a wall painting or as large as the span of several pieces of sheet metal.
The company says the perforation not only acts as a visually appealing artwork but it also allows for ventilation and light flow.
Last month Locker Group merged with Melbourne company Melwire and Mounts Wire Industries New Zealand.
Locker Group marketing manager Carli Barnes said the merger now brought specialty wire meshes to Locker Group that could be used for fencing.
Locker Group was originally started in 1956 as an Australian arm of UK parent company Lockers.
It separated from the UK business in 2003 through a management buy-out, and became Locker Group.
