KEYSBOROUGH residents who enjoy more parkland than their neighbours will be slapped with an extra $350 fee on top of their council rates from next year, according to a draft budget.
Residents adjoining Keysborough’s Tatterson Park project will collectively pay council $315,000 over the 2006-07 financial year as part of an agreed maintenance levy.
A yearly fee for Tatterson Park residents is also expected to be annual, according to council officers.
Greater Dandenong CEO Carl Wulff said the reason for the extra fee was because Tatterson Park residents would enjoy 20 per cent of open space compared to the five or 10 per cent surrounding other Keysborough residents.
“The concept was always that way because it is a different lifestyle, as opposed to each ratepayer paying a levy for the open space,” he said.
