BURDEN Park’s top Victorian Ladies’ Bowling Association side finished with a confidence-boosting 142-59 win over Chelsea in the last home and away game on Tuesday.
Skip Betty Gooch, Judy Lane, Frances Rush and Helen Alexander were the best winning rink, finishing up 45-9.
But the road to premiership glory will take a tougher turn this week when the side plays the strong Yarraville-Footscray side at the Bentleigh greens.
The second side avoided relegation with an 85-81 win over Carrum and survived to fight another season in Division A2.
The third side were defeated by Cranbourne 36-63 and would be looking to improve on a disappointing season.
The men’s Royal Victorian Bowls Association Premier League side travelled to Melbourne with the thinnest of hopes to stay in the top division.
But Burden Park’s best bowlers were not on song and went down fighting 87-93.
The side will now be relegated, meaning Burden Park will have two sides competing in division one next season.
The second side played Mulgrave and comfortably won 91-65.
Despite being in the middle of the ladder, the side has performed exceptionally well after absorbing the loss of players and finished fourth for the season.
Last week’s loss pushed the third side down from third to fifth and it travelled to Cranbourne RSL to finish the season but lost 78-106.
The fourth side played the hapless Oakleigh at home and won by 19 shots, 105-86. The fifth side had an excellent 99-87 win against Mordialloc and may have saved itself from relegation.
The sixth side had the longest journey of the day, to play Monbulk on plastic, and was unable to adjust, losing 77-134.
