DANDENONG Theatre Company (DTC) quenched residents’ thirst for local theatre with the first performances of its homecoming production of Les Miserables at the Drum Theatre last weekend.
The long-running theatre company has spent more than 10 years performing outside Dandenong due to an absence of local theatre venues – that was until the Drum opened in February.
DTC spokesperson Matt Caton said the company performed to crowds “higher than any audience DTC has ever played to” with outstanding success.
“So much so, that the Saturday night show received a standing ovation – a rare phenomenon for any level of theatrical performance,” he said.
DTC president Victoria Zainal said the company was thrilled to be back home.
“This new theatre really is an amazing facility and we hope that it helps put quality theatre within the reach of your average Dandenong resident,” she said.
Les Miserables is running at the Drum until 6 May.
To book tickets call the Drum Theatre on 9771 6666, or visit www.dandenongtheatre.org.au for more information.
