INACCURATE kicking cost the Southern Football League victory in its interleague match against the Victorian Amateur Football Association at Clayton Reserve on Saturday.
After leading all day, the SFL snatched defeat from the jaws of victory as the VAFA recorded a thrilling five-point victory.
The SFL led by three goals with 10 minutes remaining in the match and had numerous chances to seal the win, but couldn’t boot the ball between the big sticks.
Full-forward Danny Casset had trouble with accuracy, kicking four goals and five points for the day.
Secretary of Clayton Football Club, Royce Deckker, said it was the one that got away.
“In honesty we’ve been belted the last few years by the VAFA, so it would have been nice to get over the line,” he said.
“However, it was the closest interleague game for about five years, so that was great.”
St Paul’s Heath Barnes was best on ground for the SFL and Cheltenham player Steve Shaw also impressed.
Casset proved a strong marking target up forward.
Scores: SFL 11.15.81 defeated by VAFA 13.8.86.
