A NOBLE PARK man died after his van hit a power pole in Keysborough while another man was lucky to survive after hitting a power pole in Dandenong on Sunday.
To Eang, 52, was driving along Corrigan Road early last Thursday morning when it is believed the van he was driving drifted across the road and struck a power pole.
The accident happened at about 5.20am between Trevor Court and Darren Road.
Mr Eang was the only person in the car and no one else was injured in the accident.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by ambulance officers.
Police said the Mitsubishi van collided head-on with the power pole, snapping it off and dropping live power lines across the road.
Police said a passing semi-trailer became entangled in the power lines causing the roof of a fork lift, being transported by the semi-trailer, to be torn from the vehicle and dropped on the roadway.
Traffic was delayed for some time due to the power lines being damaged in the collision.
Noble Park Fire Brigade, Dandenong Rescue and Noble Park Pumper and Salvage units attended along with police, ambulance, the power company Optus, and towing services.
Police are currently investigating the collision and will prepare a report for the coroner.
In the other incident, a man suffered no life threatening injuries after the Toyota sedan he was driving collided with a power pole on Bennett Street, Dandenong, about 4.20am on Sunday.
Victoria’s road toll currently stands at 52 deaths compared with 49 this time last year.
