RESIDENTS of Guild Avenue, Noble Park, have won a battle to prevent three double-storey units being built on one residential block after the council this week refused to grant the developer a permit.
But there are mounting concerns from residents that the war is still far from over, with the developer tipped to follow through with an appeal to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT).
Geoff Draper, a resident of the abutting Selby Avenue and an objector to the development, said objectors weren’t “out to get” the developer, but the application was not appropriate for the residential area.
“It’s just the size,” he said of the Guild Avenue development. “I wouldn’t mind if there were less units.”
Springvale North Ward councillor Alan Gordon told the council the development would not fit the neighbourhood character, would block sunlight from nearby properties, and appeared to be an overdevelopment of the site.
Mr Draper said his biggest concern now was that VCAT would overrule the council’s refusal. But he said despite the outcome it was important that residents had made a stand and extended the process.
He said residents’ stances had made the process difficult for the developer in the hope it would deter others from wanting to build similar constructions.
