A COMPUTER screensaver designed to highlight Greater Dandenong’s diverse multicultural population has won Dandenong Primary School students Victorian acclaim.
Grade five and six students, with the help of teacher Bianca Cumine-Groza, designed the screensaver for the Cultural Diversity Quest 2007, part of the State Government’s Cultural Diversity Week.
“It gave the students the opportunity to explore, express and celebrate Victoria’s cultural diversity through information, communications and technology,” Ms Cumine-Groza said.
She said students brainstormed ideas about multiculturalism in both the school and the state.
“We are a very multicultural school with over 70 per cent of our students being of non-English speaking backgrounds, so the children’s ideas flowed freely from their own personal experiences,” Ms Cumine-Groza said.
“We’re so proud of the team.
“As a result of winning, we have been invited to an awards ceremony at the Immigration Museum, where each student will receive a certificate.
“There will also be a $250 gift voucher for the school to use in celebrating cultural diversity.”
