LOCAL fire brigades called on a variety of skills and technology to control a grain silo fire in Dandenong last Tuesday night.
The Dandenong Fire Brigade attended the fire in Broadlands Street in Dandenong after smoke was seen billowing from the silo.
According to a CFA report, the Dandenong brigade’s platform was used to open a hatch on top of the silo to give ventilation.
An air chisel cut another opening in the side of the corrugated iron enclosure to allow better access to the grain stock.
The Springvale Support Crew arrived with a thermal imaging camera to locate hot spots within the silo and Noble Park Salvage provided scene lighting.
The crews left the site about three hours later.
