IT looks like a weapon, but this camera is designed to shoot beautiful images.
The Fotosnaiper is the baby of Dandenong Photographic Society member Longin Krajewski.
Based on a Zenit brand camera, the Fotosnaiper is a Russian camera body coupled with a 300-millimetre lens that sits atop a small, rifle-like body.
Mr Krajewski described its appearance as that of a ‘grenade launcher’, but said the gun design was purely to give it a steadier aim.
“But if you show up with this camera at the airport they will lock you away,” he said with a laugh.
The Fotosnaiper is not a new concept, according to Mr Krajewski.
“The sniper cameras were developed as early as the 19th century,” he said.
Mr Krajewski was one of several photographic society members at the Noble Park Community Expo last Sunday promoting the organisation in a bid for new members.
He said the Dandenong Photographic Society began four years ago and had about 10 active members.
“We have outings, show and tell, discussions about photography, and our recent discussions have been on how to use Adobe Photoshop to touch up photos,” he said. “We cater for all levels of advancement and cover film, colour, black and white, and digital photography.”
