DANDENONG’S Drum Theatre is set to host Soulmates, the latest production scribed by Australian playwright David Williamson and performed by the Perth Theatre Company.
In the play, Katie Best, an Aussie ‘chic lit’ writer, is living the New York high life in a world of egocentric literary superstars.
Her books, full of elaborate love lives and urbanely glamorous people, are best sellers.
Despite this, Katie’s books are seen as nothing more than airport trash by “serious” writers who write the books everyone buys and nobody finishes. So when outspoken Melbourne critic Danny slams Katie’s latest novel, she vows to take revenge.
Danny’s wife Heather is a Meg Ryan lookalike, but has been living a dull life as a financial adviser and is sick of making millionaires into zillionaires.
Katie plays a vengeful cupid and introduces Heather to Max Van Niekerk – a world famous author and serial womaniser.
The result is an outrageous love triangle of jealousy, intrigue and romance, fought on the battleground of art versus commerce.
Soulmates will be showing at the Drum Theatre on 14 October. To book phone the box office on 9771 6666.
