A MODEL of a sunken Australian Navy cruiser?
Eye, eye!
Dandenong RSL last week exhibited the spectacular scale model ship of HMAS Sydney which was sunk by a mortar from the German ship HSK Kormoran off the West Australian coast on 19 November 1941, during World War II.
The tragedy saw all 645 Sydney crew members and 80 Kormoran members perish.
The model ship was constructed by Dandenong Eye Clinic doctor Robert Lazell, a captain in the Australian Navy during the Vietnam War.
Dr Lazell is pictured second from the right next to Dandenong RSL memorabilia officer Brian Hosie.
They are accompanied by, from left, Dandenong RSL president Alec Kowarzik and Dandenong Eye Clinic practice manager Merredea Hudgson.
