Families in the swim

SUMMERSLAM returns to Greater Dandenong next month in what promises to be a day filled with fun and excitement for the whole family.
The annual event will be held at Noble Park Swim Centre on Saturday 14 February, and is a joint initiative between the Victorian Multicultural Commission, Greater Dandenong youth and family services and the YMCA.
The city’s youth services co-ordinator Katharina Verscharen said activities would be held from 10.30am to 4.30pm.
“This year’s event offers something for everyone,” Ms Verscharen said.
“As well as water activities we will have live music, dance workshops, aerosol art, special guest appearances by players from the Dandenong Jayco Rangers, African drummers, Phaze DJ’s, Playgroup Victoria activities, competitions with great prizes and a fundraising barbecue run by the YMCA.
“It is a great day out for the whole family that is not to be missed.”
Ms Verscharen said this year’s event would also feature water safety lessons in four languages including Nuer, Dinka, Dari and Burmese sponsored by Centrelink.
She said the sessions would be held between 11am and 1pm.
“Water safety is paramount when you live in a country like Australia,” Ms Verscharen said.
“It is very important that all our residents have an opportunity to learn the importance of water safety.”
Normal pool prices apply with $3.60 for adults, $2.80 for children and a special family pass (two adults and two children) for $10.
Everyone will also receive a free waterslide pass on the day.
This is a fully-supervised alcohol and drug free event, proudly hosted by the Greater Dandenong’s children, youth and family services and the YMCA.
