Baseball bat assault

IT’S every driver’s nightmare.
Two young men driving from Endeavour Hills towards Dandenong were followed by a dark coloured AU Ford to be set upon with baseball bats when they stopped at traffic lights at the intersection of Lonsdale and Foster Streets, Dandenong.
Detective Senior Constable Russell Church said the men in the first car realised they were being followed when they were in Endeavour Hills.
“The dark car followed the two men from Endeavour Hills into Dandenong South throwing bottles at the car,” he said.
“It wasn’t until they reached Dandenong that they got out of the dark vehicle and assaulted the men.”
Det Church said that at the lights on Lonsdale and Foster Streets four men got out of the dark vehicle and set upon the driver’s side with a baseball bat injuring the driver and smashing the front windscreen.
“While this was happeninganother male set upon the passenger punching him,” he said.
He said the attack lasted only two minutes but had caused sufficient damage to both the car and its occupants.
“The passenger suffered a split lip and bruising to his face,” he said.
“And the driver suffered swelling and lacerations to his face from the blows from the baseball bat.”
Det Church called on witnesses to the lead up to the assault or the assault itself to contact him at Dandenong CIU on 9767 7678 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
