Train maker lodges bid

THEConnex consortium, which includes Dandenong train builder Bombardier, has lodged its bid to continue operating the Melbourne metropolitan train network.
Bombardier, based in Frankston Road, Dandenong, is a leading global rolling stock builder, renovator and maintainer.
Connex, through its parent company Veolia Transport, has confirmed the bid with the Victorian Government.
The other partner in the deal is SMRT. Jonathan Metcalfe, the executive chairman of Connex/Veolia Transport, said the Bombardier partnership would bring its management and IT systems strength, technical rolling stock expertise and a strong track record in leading the transformation from asset maintainer to asset manager.
He said SMRT was a highly successful Singapore-based public transport provider, internationally recognised for its operational credentials, customer focus, ability to introduce and integrate systems, and capability in working with transport authorities in delivering major infrastructure projects.
“We are confident that the Veolia/Bombardier/SMRT bid presents a compelling case,” Mr Metcalfe said.
“We have focused on how the customer experience could be improved and how we could successfully partner with the government to deliver projects to transform the Melbourne train network over the next decade.”
A Connex spokesman would make no further comment saying the bid process was confidential.
