“I JUST want a fair go.”
Dandenong North truckie Eddie Diaz has prompted Greater Dandenong councillor Maria Sampey to call on the council to adopt a uniform policy on trucks being parked on residential properties.
Mr Diaz said he had applied on three separate occasions to park his truck on his custom-made property, but his requests had been denied thanks to one neighbour’s complaints.
“There are other trucks parked on properties down my street and they are not being told off because no-one has complained,” he said. “Now I am forced to park at the local shopping centre.”
Mr Diaz, a father of four, said he had made a number of changes to his home to form a parking spot for his truck and was willing to make any other necessary changes including painting the top of his truck green to blend in with the hedges he has planted.
Cr Sampey said she raised the idea of a uniform policy after learning of Mr Diaz’s plight.
“There are inconsistencies in our city,” Cr Sampey said. “Just because someone has a neighbour from hell doesn’t mean they should be treated differently from others. We (the council) are being reactive instead of pro-active.”
Cr Sampey called on truck drivers to be able to have their truck on their property.
“I want us to be pro-active and let truck owners know they need a permit.”
