THE trials and tribulations of love and marriage will be looked at with a sense of humour when Baby Boomer Blues comes to the Drum Theatre.
The play, by the Perth Theatre Company, is an entertaining portrayal of married life and a baby boomer couple’s search for fulfilment.
This light-hearted comedy will focus on the problems the couple faces when Bob’s, played by Greg McNeill, business fails and Carol takes over as the household breadwinner. This unexpected role swap has surprising results for their marriage, further complicated by Bob’s quest for the meaning of life.
Amanda Crewes, who plays the character of Carol, said while Bob’s life seems to go into turmoil Carol forces him to face his fears in an attempt to help him find his purpose in life. A tropical holiday, a karaoke talent quest and a typhoon push their partnership to the brink of disaster.
Ms Crewes said the themes are universal and many people will be able to relate to the “cliché relationship issues”.
“Anyone who has ever been in love and watched their partner go through a tough time will be able to relate to this play,” she said.
“It shows a wife trying to get her husband to talk about his issues in order to try to understand.”
“We have had feedback from people so far saying we had just put their life on stage.”
Directed by highly respected stalwart of West Australian theatre Jenny McNae, the production is supported by the creative talents of Steve Nolan, Lucy Birkinshaw and Roly Skender.
Baby Boomer Blues will be at Drum theatre for one show only on Wednesday July 15 at 8pm.
Cost per ticket is adults $35 and concession $31.
For bookings contact Drum Theatre Box Office on 9771 6666.
