THE State League soccer season played its final round on the weekend and some local teams could be forgiven for being glad it is over, after enduring horror seasons.
State League one club Southern Stars will head down a division in 2010 after finishing last on the table with one win, five draws and 16 losses in a horror season.
The Springvale White Eagles fared marginally better and managed to avoid relegation by a point, despite losing their final game 1-0 to Clifton Hill.
State League Two clubs Heatherton United and Dandenong City both finished mid-table in their division.
Heatherton United finished the season on a sour note, going down 5-0 to Diamond Valley United, while Dandenong City drew 3-3 with relegation-bound South Springvale.
The Souths had a tough season with four wins, seven draws and 11 losses to their name.
Noble Park United was unlucky to miss out on a promotion spot in State League Three South East, falling a point shy of second-placed Southern Suburbs.
United flew home winning its last three games including a resounding 6-1 defeat of Waverley on Saturday but it was not enough to grab second spot, and the team will face another year in State League Three.
Springvale City finished up with a 1-0 loss to Southern Suburbs and the club ended up sixth with 28 points, after a three-point deduction following a pitch invasion in the round 20 clash with Berwick City.
Relief for most as season ends
