SINGING echoes from the Paddy O’Donohue Centre every Wednesday from a new community choir that brings together people from all walks of life.
Greater Dandenong Sings, which was formed through Creativity Australia, is aimed to bring disadvantaged, unemployed, migrant, disabled, and people from the corporateworld together for an hour of singing, followed by a supper and socialising.
Creativity Australia program co-ordinator Pippa Wischer said the first event this month was a major success and she hoped more people would join in the near future.
“We had over 40 people sign up, but there is still plenty of room for people to come along,” she said.
“Everyone was really friendly. We introduced ourselves, sang a couple songs, and were harmonising. It was great. You don’t have to be a great singer to be involved.”
Ms Wischer said the choir sang a range of songs to suit people of different nationalities.
“We have a wide repertoire – some older songs, show tunes, classics modern sings, songs in other languages,” she said.
Ms Wischer said the choir wouldbe singing at Carols by Candlelight, gala dinners, award nights and conferences.
She said the choir was not only a form of entertainment but a way for people to forge friendships andmake connections with othersin the community.
Anyone interested in joining the choir, or providing sponsored child care during the session can call 9682 9686 or visit www.creativityaustralia.org.au.
