THE number of burglaries in the City of Greater Dandenong has plummeted in the past year, while the numbers of related arrests are up.
Detective Acting Sergeant Stuart Freeman said detectives had spearheaded a number of operations targeting burglaries and thefts across the city.
In the past year, residential burglaries have dropped by 29 per cent, commercial burglaries are down 30 per cent and arrest rates are up by 10 per cent.
But in the past month, 14 people have been remanded in custody for burglary related incidents, including Springvale man Bao Truong.
Truong, 25, was arrested on 20 September and charged with three counts of aggravated burglary, eight counts of burglary and eight thefts.
He was remanded in custody to appear at the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on 29 October.
As part of Operation Felloe, detectives arrested Noble Park man Russell Ford, 32, on 6 October.
He was charged with 22 counts of burglary, six counts of attempted burglary and 20 counts of theft.
He was remanded in custody to appear at the Dandenong Magistrates Court on 26 October.
Det Act Sgt Freeman said the arrests were a result of a dedicated team’s continuous efforts.
“Burglaries are down because of the team’s hard work,” he said.
“People know we are out there and they will get caught.”
Det Act Sgt Freeman said detectives will keep conducting operations targeting burglaries and thefts in an effort to continue driving down the amount of crime in the City of Greater Dandenong.
