IMPROVING public transport is the top priority for a new Greens candidate for Dandenong electorate.
Keysborough resident Matthew Kirwan has decided to run as a Greens candidate in the upcoming State Election.
And at the top of his list of priorities is improving public transport for the people in his electorate.
“It (Dandenong) has an above-average amount of families that do not own a car,” he said. “And even those with cars would use public transport more if it was safe, frequent and reliable.”
Mr Kirwan said the Greens provide a great commitment to improving services including public transport.
“Unlike the major parties, the Greens see it a State Government priority to significantly improve public transport,” he said. “And we have a long-term plan to improve public transport across the city including the state electorate of Dandenong.”
Mr Kirwan said the improvements the Greens would implement would be building a Rowville railway line, which would benefit Dandenong North residents, ensuring all stations were fully staffed from the first to last train of the day and maintain railways station are properly maintained.
This is the first time Mr Kirwan has run in an election, but he has been a member of the Greens for the past three years as a campaign manager.
Mr Kirwan said he believed the Dandenong electorate would benefit from Greens policies.
“The Dandenong seat is one of the safest Labor seats in the state,” he said. “And in any safe seat, the MP can have a tendency to take the area for granted.”
