Drumming support for theatre

DANDENONG’S Drum Theatre unleashed its program for the 2011 season in fitting style on Tuesday night.
International magician and escape artist extraordinaire Cosentino released himself from a strait jacket, as the Drum Theatre released its 2011 program to a packed theatre of members and representatives from Dandenong organisations and businesses.
Greater Dandenong mayor Jim Memeti welcomed everyone to the launch of the 2011 season.
“More than two million people have attended the Drum Theatre since it opened for performances and functions in this modern space,” he said.
“And this season will be no exception. It will be a momentous year with a number of productions lined up from leading companies expected in 2011.
I’m sure you’re all eager to find out what’s in store for the year ahead.”
Drum Theatre director Cultural Facilities Greg Hordacre officially launched the program to the crowd.
“The Drum Theatre works together with the council and other community groups,” he said.
“Together, we work for you, together we are Drum Season 2011.”
He said the theatre had a lot in store for the year ahead.
“We will have quality theatre entertainment for families and schools,” he said. “It’s the best program yet for young people.
“In 2011, the Drum Theatre will host its first festival, called the Drum Festival.
“We want to put on exclusive shows so the rest of Melbourne can come to Dandenong to see the best.”
The Drum Season 2011 has a number of productions lined up including ‘Funk It Up About Nothin’ by the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Artery by Tasdance, Rainbow’s End featuring Christine Anu and the Australian Ballet’s ‘Don Quixote.
Two icons of Australian theatre Nancye Hayes and Reg Livermore will take to the stage in May for their show ‘Turns’.
The public can also be amazed by Cosentino, when he performs at the Drum Theatre in October 2011.
