Sod it? No way

By Nicole Williams
THE first sod has been turned for the new Hallam Valley Trade Training and Skills Hub.
State member for Narre Warren North, Luke Donnellan, and federal member for Holt, Anthony Byrne, were on hand to turn the sod, marking the beginning of construction on the project.
“Our kids in Holt deserve the best quality education to give them the best start in life,” Mr Byrne said.
Federal Labor committed $10.4 million to the project, which will benefit seven local secondary schools.
The hub is a cross-sectoral trade training centre, which will allow senior secondary school students to undertake training in traditional and emerging trades while continuing studies at school.
Mr Donnellan said developing a highly skilled and educated workforce by providing these training opportunities will help meet the challenges of the future.
Senior students at Hallam Senior Secondary College, Fountain Gate Secondary College, Gleneagles Secondary College, Endeavour Hills Secondary College, Hampton Park Secondary College, Narre Warren South P-12 College and St. Johns Regional College are set to benefit from construction of the training and skills hub.
