RAYMOND Johnston has been awarded by the City of Greater Dandenong with the title of Good Neighbour of the Year for his active interest and passion for the history of Greater Dandenong.
The Keysborough resident has spent a lifetime sharing the knowledge he has spent countless hours of research finding with local school students and new arrivals to Noble Park and Keysborough. “It’s very embarrassing,” Mr Johnston said. “I’m very proud but very humble because I know different people who work and put in so much time. I hope the things I have done and some of my little projects have made a difference, but it’s all part of what we’re all about, really.”
Mr Johnston said he tries to enlist schools which have a high degree of multicultural groups.
“It’s terrific, a great success,” he said.
He encourages young people to become more involved in local activities, which he believes is crucial to increasing community pride and harmony.
Warm welcome has its reward
