Young wishes granted

STATE Government grants will allow young Greater Dandenong residents to show off their talents during National Youth Week in April. The City of Greater Dandenong received $2,000 to run the Wot Tha Funk event during the week from 1 to 10 April.
South Eastern Metropolitan Region MP Inga Peulich said National Youth Week provided a wonderful opportunity for young people across Greater Dandenong to celebrate and be acknowledged for their contributions to the community.
“The City of Greater Dandenong in partnership with young people and local secondary schools will facilitate performing arts workshops that aim to raise awareness of issues affecting young people,” Ms Peulich said.
“The workshops will also provide a medium in which young people can express themselves and provide an opportunity for young people to celebrate their contribution to the community.”
Ms Peulich said in 2010 more than 20,000 young Victorians took part in the celebrations, and she hoped even more would get involved this year.
“The theme for National Youth Week 2011 is ‘Own It’ and the Greater Dandenong community should be encouraging young people to do exactly that- celebrating their talents, ideas, contributions and achievements,” she said.
The National Youth Week 2011 grants have been made available through a partnership between the Victorian Government, Australian Government and beyondblue: the national depression initiative, though its Youthbeyondblue program.
