THE City of Greater Dandenong is calling for aspiring young people to become future leaders.
The council is seeking applicants for its 2011Young Leaders Program.
Following on from its success over the past two years, the council is looking for young people aged between 16 and 25 who are keen to develop leadership skills and promote community participation.
Last year 23 young people graduated from the City of Greater Dandenong Young Leaders Program, building on the 15 graduates from 2009.
Many of the graduates from last year came from new and emerging communities including Afghanistan, Sudan, Burundi, Mauritius and Cambodia.
Greater Dandenong youth services co-ordinator Katharina Verscharen said the Young Leaders Program provided young people with the opportunity to develop leadership skills for use both now and in the future.
“The young people who participate in the program gain a better understanding of how local government works, as well as skills in project management, publicity, event management and public speaking,” she said.
“The skills they learn will stand them in good stead for the future and we look forward to seeing the contribution they make as young leaders in our community.”
If you would like to be a leader of the future contact Greater Dandenong youth services on 9793 2155 for more information about the program or to join.
