AUSTRALIA’S largest IKEA store is taking shape in Springvale and is set to start recruiting to fill about 350 positions before its spring opening.
In March, the Swedish home furnishing giant will start a recruiting drive to fill employment spaces for a range of roles from cashiers, to sales, middle management and logistic type jobs.
All this while the homemaker superstore is making its presence known on the Prince Highway, with the iconic bright blue clad now up.
Melbourne Marketing Manager Bianca Speller said IKEA was after people of all ages, different skill levels and a range of backgrounds.
“We want to recruit from the local area and support the local community,” she said.
“We are after people with a range of skills and skill levels.
“Even those without experience should not be put off applying. If you are the right cultural fit for IKEA we will give you the necessary training.”
Ms Speller said they wanted to make a good impact in the community.
“Our ethos is really about being a good neighbour,” Ms Speller said.
“We are moving in a big store which will have a big impact on the community and we want that to be positive.
“We would love to hear from the community about what’s important to them through community engagement.”
IKEA will be part of the largest Homemaker Centre in Australia which will also include home furnishing giant Harvey Norman.
The $286 million development will sit on a 71,000 square metre site on the corner of Westall Road and the Princes Highway and will create about 1500 jobs all up.
IKEA itself will be 36,000 square metres making it the biggest in the country.
Job advertisements will go on IKEA’s website, www.ikea.com.au, in March.
