LOCAL personality Vajira Ekanayake has been awarded for his contribution to the community.
The Nihal De Mel Memorial Award for Social Welfare was presented to Mr Ekanayake on 4 February at Box Hill Town Hall.
The award recognises his contribution through a number of community groups and events such as the Red Cross Society, the Dandenong Hospital Christmas Carols, the founding of Aus.Audio Visual Arts Association and RSL Poppy Day.
