POLICE are on the hunt for two men who seriously assaulted a 22-year-old man who boarded a train at Dandenong Station.
Investigators have been told that the victim was travelling towards Melbourne on Wednesday 18 May at 11pm and was sitting by himself.
As the train approached Yarraman Railway Station police said two men approached the victim, punched him several times and knocked him unconscious.
The attackers got off the train when it reached Yarraman Station and other passengers called an ambulance and police.
The man was left with a fractured cheek and nose from the attack and was taken to hospital.
Witnesses have told investigators that they believe the attackers were of Maori or Islander background, in their late teens to early twenties and about 190 centimetres tall.
