Fines after crackdown

A THREE-NIGHT operation has seen Springvale police crack down on outstanding warrants and fines.
More than 150 people got a knock on the door from visiting officers during Operation Habeas Corpus on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights.
Sergeant Michael Hughes of Springvale police said 61 offenders were processed for various warrants and the Sheriff’s Office collected more than $111,000 in outstanding fines.
Three people were remanded in custody to face court and the remaining 58 were bailed to appear at a later date.
Sgt Hughes said that although the operation was over, there will be more in the future.
“This operation has been a success but we will monitor the situation and run further operations when required,” Sgt Hughes said.
“If anyone wants to hand themselves in we are more than willing to oblige them.”
Sunday night was the biggest night of the operation, when police visited 105 addresses and arrested 29 people.
One person was remanded in custody for seven outstanding warrants.
On the same night, Sheriff’s officers executed 111 warrants on 13 people totalling more than of $41,000.
Another 22 people were arrested on Monday night and Sheriff’s officers collected a further $69,000 in warrants.
