Cleaned up commute

By Nicole Williams
COMMUNITY concerns have prompted Greater Dandenong Council to meet with transport officials to help clean up Dandenong Station.
Although Dandenong Station is not owned or managed by the council, Mayor Roz Blades said there was a strong community interest in public transport and the safety of Dandenong Station.
Council officers met with representatives from Metro Trains, the Department of Transport, Victoria Police, Transit Police and VicUrban last week to discuss community concerns about safety.
“People want to feel they can use Dandenong Station and not feel they have to go to Hallam,” she said.
“The council will continue to advocate on behalf of our residents to address issues including crime rates, poor perceptions, personal safety concerns, station cleanliness, CCTV cameras, the future use of Protective Service Officers, the design of the station and anti-social behaviour.”
Cr Blades said the meeting was very successful and would be followed by a site visit and another meeting later this month.
Dandenong Station has more than 8000 passenger movements each day and numbers were expected to rise by seven per cent per year into the future.
