DANDENONG and Springvale City are still in celebration mode after both teams secured promotion on Saturday.
Provisional One side Springvale City will return to the Division league next year after beating Skye United, while Dandenong City will play in Division One for the first time in the club’s 31-year history.
After seven years, Dandenong was crowned Division Two champions with a 1-0 win over Eastern Lions at Gardiners Creek Reserve.
The championship also validates the contentious decision in 2008 to merge Dandenong and Chelsea SC.
The move has paid dividends in improving on-pitch performances and has also been influential in encouraging Dandenong’s budding juniors to remain at the club.
Springvale City is also eagerly awaiting its return to Division Three after it beat Skye United 3-1 at Skye Recreational Reserve.
Kosta Olabuntu squared the scores at 1-1 heading into the major break, before Ali Osmani put the visitors ahead in the 57th minute.
Semir Habibovic sealed the promotion in the dying minutes with a converted penalty.
AT the other end of the table, Heatherton United kept its fading season alive with a 2-0 win over Box Hill at Wembley Park.
Still needing to win at least one of its last two games to avoid relegation, Heatherton has given itself every chance to clear the drop zone by recording its second biggest win of the year.
In the remaining Division Two games, Noble Park and South Springvale suffered significant losses.
Noble Park went down 4-1 to Morwell at Parkfield Reserve, while Knox City scored two own goals for opponents South Springvale during its 3-2 win at Warner Reserve.
The Division One Southern Stars dropped two vital points to dip out of the promotion zone.
The Stars only managed a 1-1 draw against Altona Magic on Saturday and have fallen a point behind the Whittlesea Zebras in second place.
