Fourteen-piece Peligro has promised to do Dandenong proud when it performs in the Brisbane heat on Saturday 22 October.
Lead singer, Julio Pereira said they would put on a good show.
“We have been rehearsing four times a week and we will put on a good show for the competition,” he said.
“We’re very excited.”
The band has been together for 11 years and is made up of a five-piece brass section, a five-piece percussion section and four front-line vocalists.
Peligro has been making its mark on the Victorian Latin music scene with regular performances at Q-Room, Next Blue, and Copacabana International as well as Latin festivals.
Legendary stars of the Buena Vista Social Club are flying from Cuba to play alongside local bands during the heats and the bands will be judged by a panel of music and Latin music experts.
The general public will also be able to vote online for a ‘People’s Choice’ winner to go through to the Grand Finale.
The winning band will win $10,000 and a contract for the 2012 Clave Contra Clave national tour as well as a trip to Cuba for one of its members.
Julio and Peligro will compete in the Brisbane heat on Saturday 22 October.
The Clave Contra Clave competition will also hold heats in Melbourne on Saturday 8 October, Sydney on Saturday 15 October and the Grand Finale will be held at the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney on Saturday 5 November.
Tickets to all of the events are available online through Ticketek.
