Big cats lash out

By Jarrod Potter
PANTHERS roared into life against the Camberwell Magpies, knocking over the visitors well within a day at Shepley Oval.
The Panthers’ bowlers made life in the centre very difficult, as the Mapgies’ batsmen were unable to mount much of an offence.
Dandenong struck wicket after wicket before and after the lunch break, as Camberwell went from 0/44 to 8/76. The weapons responsible were James Nanopoulos (3/20), Paul Boraston (2/26), the returning Darren Pattinson (2/26) and Brent Fairbanks (2/46). A late innings rally from Magpies Andrew Fekete (48) and Mark Dwyer (28) put on 86 runs for the ninth wicket to get Camberwell to 168.
In response, Tom Donnell kept providing reasons for his promotion to the Bushrangers’ inner sanctum with 63 not out and put on a 71-run unbeaten partnership with the skipper Darren Dempsey (37 not out). His latest innings pushes Dempsey to 9942 career runs in Premier cricket, 58 short of joining the prestigious 10,000 run club with the likes of John Scholes, Jack Ryder and Dandenong legend Warren Ayres.
The Panthers will resume at 2/113 on Saturday.
