DANGEROUS and drunk drivers kept Greater Dandenong Highway Patrol busy over the long weekend but the municipality was lucky to record zero fatalities.
Sergeant Brett Shenton said most driver were well behaved but there were a small group of people charged with drink driving and other dangerous driving charges.
A 45-year-old man was caught after trying to avoid a booze-bus in Bangholme just after 5pm on Thursday night (5 April).
The Frankston man turned into Thames Promenade, where police were conducting random breath tests, and immediately turned his car around.
When intercepted by police, the man returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.211 and was also found to be unlicensed from a previous drink driving charge.
He was summonsed to appear before court on charges of driving unlicensed and drink-driving.
Also on Thursday night, the Greater Dandenong Highway Patrol impounded a car in Noble Park.
A 22-year-old woman from Noble Park was travelling along Heatherton Road at 8.35pm when she was stopped by police.
The woman was found to be driving while disqualified following an earlier driving offence.
Her car was impounded for 30 days and she will be charged on summons for driving while disqualified.
A 49-year-old man was found passed out at the wheel of his car after colliding with a power pole on Heatherton Road in Noble Park on Saturday.
A passing motorist noticed the car and found the driver, from Clayton South, asleep at the wheel.
When police woke the man he recorded a blood alcohol level of 0.153 and was found to be driving while disqualified.
He will be charged on summons for driving while disqualified and other drink driving charges.
On Friday a P-plate driver was caught driving almost 50 km/h over the speed limit on the South Gippsland Highway in Dandenong.
The 20-year-old driver had two passengers in the car and was travelling at 128 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.
His car was impounded for 30 days and he will be charged on summons with exceeding the speed limit and driving at dangerous speeds.
