KEYSBOROUGH Primary School has entered a new era.
After merging with Coomoora Primary School three years ago, earlier this year the school relocated to Keysborough Secondary College’s old site. On Friday 26 October the school community celebrated the official opening of its new classrooms and buildings.
Isaacs MP Mark Dreyfus unveiled the $5.68 million project, funded under the Federal Government’s Building the Education Revolution (BER) Program.
Mr Dreyfus said the project included new classrooms, a canteen, and building refurbishments and complemented the school’s impressive community centre.
He said the transition had been an exciting journey for principal Margaret McKenzie, teachers, parents and students.
“It is great to stand with you today to open these wonderful new classrooms and buildings, which will provide students with interactive and open-plan learning spaces,” Mr Dreyfus said.
“These new facilities will give Keysborough Primary students the best possible start on their educational journey and lays the foundation for our community and our nation’s future.”
Ms McKenzie said the school over the past three years had been involved in a merger, two school site closures and two substantial whole-school relocations.
“Our BER project and the wonderful facilities we now offer help ensure students in the area will have access to a high quality, sustainable educational future in buildings appropriate to 21st century learning,” she said.
The school has more than 500 students enrolled and is located at 33 Coomoora Road, Springvale.
