AUSTRALIA Day wasn’t the only celebration happening on Saturday – at Sandown Racecourse in Springvale it was all about Tet.
The annual Vietnamese Tet Festival celebrated the Vietnamese New Year with performances, international food, carnival rides, games and cultural experiences.
Vietnamese Community in Australia’s Victoria Chapter committee president Bon Nguyen said nice weather helped to make the event fantastic.
He said crowd numbers were down compared to last year because of the clash with Australia Day events and fireworks in the city on Saturday and a similar festival in Richmond on Sunday.
However, he said organisers received great feedback from the community and encouragement to promote the festival further within the City of Greater Dandenong in the future.
“They could see that we’d put a lot of effort into the day,” Mr Nguyen said.
“There was a fantastic conclusion to the festival with fireworks on Sunday.”
