Spoljaric at batting apex

By JARROD POTTER

THE cricket season in Dandenong District closed with the announcement of the major award winners and statistical best for season 2012/13.
Steve Spoljaric took out the Turf 1 batting average, smashing 704 runs at 88, with Dandenong West all-rounder Alex Roberts (589 at 73.63) and Buckley Ridges’ Greg Todd (428 at 71.33) nipping at his heels.
Lyndale’s powerhouse batting pair Jaime Brohier (481 at 53.44) and Richard Faust (307 at 51.17) showed their domination in Turf 2 while Buckley Ridges’ Paul Rudd (274 at 54.8), St Mary’s Gary Cake (419 at 52.38) and Narre South’s Jeffrey Thom (475 at 79.17) took out the lower Turf grade averages.
The bowling nods went to Roberts (28 wickets at 9.39), Cranbourne’s Cameron Kelly (23 at 7.13) in Turf 2, Buckley Ridges’ Matin Sultani (24 at 10.08), St Mary’s Qamar Zaman (38 at 8.42) and Cranbourne’s Steven Miller (24 at 8.5) in the lower Turf.
Doveton’s Ashwanth Nagendan was unstoppable in the juniors, accumulating 570 runs at 114 to take out the junior aggregate while Berwick Springs’ Ashley Chandrasinghe (177 at 177) was only dismissed on his last ball of the season – the under-13 1’s grand final. Narre North’s Under-17 1’s bowler Joshua Dowling (24 wickets at 7.13) had the best aggregate.
