DESPITE what the scorecard suggests, it was an absolute minefield at Lakeside Drive Reserve with 21 wickets falling in Saturday’s VSDCA action – Roxburgh Park/Broadmeadows (50), while Noble Park (56 and 1/13) left the heavy lifting to its bowlers.
The Bulls had to contend with solid bowling from the Roxburgh Park/Broadmeadows contingent and batted the best they could as the bowlers ramped up the offensive.
As bad as the batsmen had it, the bowlers loved their job – with Roxburgh Park/Broadmeadows opener Mitch Streiff (7/21) knocking over seven Bulls in his 15 overs.
At 7/11, Noble Park was in a trouble to beat all other batting troubles, but the cooler heads of Jake Richardson (23) and Jake Bradshaw (13) prevailed to post something half-way respectable for the Bulls to defend.
Noble Park need not have worried about the total though, as Rizan Mawzoon (6/28) flung his destructive best at the home team. Mawzoon ran through the order and claimed a hat-trick in the process, giving the Bulls a surprising six-run first innings lead.
The Bulls will resume at 1/13 next week as they look to extend a second innings lead.
