Problem rooted out

TO KARL Joseph of Noble Park re: your letter (Put Off Parking, Journal, 19 October) why do you need such large trees?
Shade would be one answer and you might find that it would take at least 20 years for roots to lift concrete paths.
Smaller trees are a problem in that they interfere with line of sight for motorists and pedestrians.
Anything that only grows to two metres tall, as you suggest, is a bush and totally unsuitable for planting beside a busy road.
I personally worked on the City of Springvale tree crew for quite a few years so I know all about tree-related problems.
I am glad John Kelly has been a councillor for so long as he has a wealth of experience and forms unbiased opinions, unlike some.
