THIRTY-ONE students from a specialist school in Dandenong were on a bus when it was involved in a crash at Hallam last week.
The two vehicles collided on Nettle Drive about 3.50pm on Wednesday 20 March. The driver of the car was taken to hospital with serious injuries, while the driver of the bus was also treated for injuries and has returned to work this week.
Emerson School principal John Mooney said three students were treated for injuries including a sore nose, a bump on the forehead and another had stitches on their arm.
He said he was proud of the driver, school assistant and all the children for working together during the horrific incident and thanked the community who had offered their support.
“The 30 students on the bus worked in a terrific team with the driver and assistant and got out through the back of the bus with the assistance from the fire brigade,” Mr Mooney said.
“All the students were back to school the next day. It was a very shocking event, but shows the great spirit of our students. The spirit in which the children managed the accident is the same spirit they have in their lives. We are so proud of everyone on the bus, the staff and all the people who have helped out.”
