VIC Country was left to lick its wounds after losing to South Australia by 34 points – its second loss to the red scourge in two seasons – at the AFL under-18 national championships.
Heading across statelines to face the croweaters, Vic Country failed to generate anything meaningful on the scoreboard.
Country couldn’t muster any flow-on advantage – only kicking 6.9 for the match, with forwards Clay McCartney and North Ballarat-listed Darcy Willsmore picking up a pair of majors each.
North Adelaide’s Mitchell Harvey put his name up for draft contention with a four-goal haul, while highly-touted draft pair Matt Scharenberg and Luke Dunstan also continued their rampage through the carnival.
For the visitors, Stingrays-listed Billy Hartung toiled in and under the packs while Zak Jones provided some backbone in the defensive end with 18 possessions.
Vic Country hosts Western Australia at Simonds Stadium on Friday 28 June from 12.35pm – the first of a double-header with Vic Metro taking on South Australia at 2.35pm.
