Teeing off for charity

TAKE a Swing for Charity will return for its fifth year, at Sandhurst Club in Skye on 24 February.
The annual South East Business Networks (SEBN) fund-raising event has so far raised more than $160,000 to help Greater Dandenong residents in need.
SEBN manager Sandra George last week urged businesses to save the date and sign up a team, sponsor the day or donate auction items.
She said the proceeds would go to an organisation assisting with family violence or food security.
“You’d be absolutely gobsmacked at the number of people in this region who don’t get access to good, healthy food,” she said.
Ermha received $40,000 from last year to help people with mental health problems return to work.
CEO Peter Waters told last week’s SEBN dinner that the cash bought four new coffee machines for its Dandenong training centre, which trains about 400 people a year.
They go on to work in Ermha’s MadCap Cafes and other employment.
“Like a toothache or a back ache, you can’t see a mental illness,” he said.
“Madcap is about what we can do, rather than what we can’t do.”
Call SEBN on 9238 1550 or email sebn@cgd.vic.gov.au for more information.
