Value of media relationships

Dandenong police Acting Senior Sergeant Duncan Bartley.

VICTORIA Police’s strategic plan, Blueprint 2012-15, was recently updated and released by Chief Commissioner Ken Lay.
The plan reinforces the need for local police to be working with, taking advice from and effectively communicating with all community stakeholders.
We acknowledge that local newspapers play a major role in achieving this and we greatly value the enduring relationship we have with all our local media.
Victoria Police’s relationships with local journalists in the Dandenong area enable us to communicate with and seek assistance from the community in solving crimes and get crime prevention messages and tips to local residents.
Recently, the Greater Dandenong Star and Dandenong Journal were able to raise community awareness as we detected a rise in vehicle collisions involving pedestrians within Greater Dandenong.
This coverage of the issue influenced broader discussion around road and pedestrian safety.
As a police officer, I understand the importance of working closely with local journalists and in turn with the community that our local media connects with.
As with the way we do our business, the Greater Dandenong Star and Dandenong Journal have continuously sought to improve its services to the community and this revamp demonstrates this.
The Dandenong Journal has been around for the past 148 years and we look forward to working with you for the next 148 years.
