PARKMORE Shopping Centre has been a meeting place for the local community for 40 years and will celebrate the milestone with the people who’ve made its success possible.
“The guests that walk through our doors every day,” centre manager Elizabeth Moroney said.
“I think Parkmore is very much a centre for the local community.
“I was talking to a woman who started shopping here in 1973 when we opened and hasn’t looked back.
“We want to invite them to celebrate.”
Festivities on 14 November are also designed to welcome those moving into the growing Keysborough community.
“And, hopefully, get some new customers for the next 40 years,” Ms Moroney said.
Parkmore shopping centre first opened its doors on 27 November 1973 as the fourth largest self-supporting shopping centre in Victoria.
“Since then there have been a few physical variations but the core purpose of the centre – to be a meeting place for the community, with a convenient and family-friendly approach – still rings true and is what guides the centre,” Ms Moroney said.
“With over 8.7 million guests a year, we think we must be doing something right!”
Ms Moroney said the centre had seen a few facelifts, with major renovations happening in 1995 and 2007 in line with the growing demand from the local population.
“We’re constantly evolving the centre to make sure it remains relevant,” she said.
She’s not too sure what the future holds for the centre, but is determined to ensure it keeps giving shoppers reason to come back.
“We want to make sure we’re here for the long haul,” she said.
